Concert: August 3, 2022

The day was hot and stormy to begin with, with temperatures reaching into the 90’s. As the band donned their woolen suits the summer evening relented, and cooler climes descended.

This week Lucas Wickstrom’s program “Sunrises” featured some trombone pieces in remembrance of the late Ray Leverton, longtime trombone player with the band and a staunch supporter of the community.

I find it hard to believe anyone in the 906 area code had never had his had shaken and received a warm smile from him, but for those who may not have been as familiar as many, Ray spent a lot of his time on local projects, one of his pets being the Ishpeming Carnegie Library, which he worked tirelessly to raise money for improvements. He will be sorely missed.

Garrett Alderton wanted to perform this piece, “The Patriot” by Arthur Pryor, in memory of Mr. Leverton.
Another great crowd!

Next week is the last concert for the season! Make sure to come be the Breitung Park in Negaunee and see our “pops” concert. There will also be a chance to hear an update on the Vista Theater project, and a percussion ensemble piece! It promises to be a good one!
